Reference 3
GTAW3R – Discontinued
Full range planar driver 72″x10″ (183cm x 25cm)
Ribbon tweeter 72″x1/2″ (183cm x 1,3cm)
Handcrafted in-house and devoid of OEM drivers, the Reference 3 is a true 2-way planar ribbon speaker.
Its Wideband Planar Driver utilizes a proprietary membrane and pure copper conductors for output 50Hz to 3-4kHz with an ultra-low noise floor and total transparency, using no crossover between the amp and the driver.
At the same time, the complementary Ribbon Tweeter operates in the 3kHz to 30 kHz range using only one VH ODAM Labs capacitor. And with a sensitivity of 93 dB (4 ohms), the speaker is straightforward to drive.

The main planar drivers will play down to 50hz without a crossover and play to around 3-4 kHz without a crossover as they are mechanically tuned to do so using a proprietary use of membranes, Neo magnets and pure copper traces. It is a natural roll off with no crossover.
The pure Ribbon tweeter is also designed to play from 3khz to 50 kHz, and it uses only one VH ODAM Labs capacitor.
These speakers will perform equally well in a 2-channel audiophile setup as well as home theater main speakers.
They will perform well with modest equipment, but will bring out the best of a full on high end system.

GTAW speakers sound satisfying from any seat in the room, or outside the room for that matter!
Critical listening from your favorite sweet spot, you will find that they produce a full, tall, wide, dynamic, transparent and cohesive sound. Treble is all there and accurate, but does not stand out as some ribbons can do. Mids have a nice tonality and have been described as “very engaging.”
GTAW speakers are designed to be very live sounding, with dynamic contrasts and toe tapping ability. No heavily processed sound that on first listen sounds impressive, but after extended listening you realize the musical tapestry all seems to blend together without the excitement that defines live music.
My full range planar uses no xovers or filters of any kind. This direct connection to the driving amp is the only way to produce a highly resolving and emotionally satisfying transducer.
